Hydrangea Day Is Coming to East End Trees on June 27 (And Yes, There’s a Food Truck)

If you’ve ever stood in your yard wondering why your neighbor’s hydrangeas look like a magazine cover while yours look like they’re going through something, this is your day.

On Saturday, June 27, we’re hosting Hydrangea Day here at East End Trees, 168 Townline Road in Kings Park, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. It’s completely free to attend, and we’re going all in on one of Long Island’s favorite plants. One day only, rain or shine, and trust us, you want to be here.

What’s Happening

We’ll have hundreds of hydrangeas on site, truckloads of fresh inventory in just about every variety, color, and size you can think of. Blues, pinks, purples, reds, whites, the big mophead showstoppers, the cone-shaped panicle types that thrive in full sun, compact varieties for small spaces, all of it. If you’ve been waiting to add hydrangeas to your landscape, this is the deepest selection you’ll see anywhere on Long Island this season.

We’re also bringing in an expert speaker from Bailey Nurseries, the growers behind the Endless Summer and First Editions brands. These are the people who literally develop and breed the hydrangeas everyone wants. They don’t just sell these plants, they created them, and they’ll be on site answering your questions all day long.

Free Expert Talks

Two seminars, both free, no signup needed. Just show up and grab a spot.

10:45 a.m. — Choosing the Right Hydrangea for Your Space

Sun, shade, sandy Long Island soil, small yard, big yard, salty coastal air. Not every hydrangea works everywhere, and that’s the number one reason they disappoint people. This talk covers which varieties will actually thrive on your specific property, so you stop guessing at the garden center and start planting with confidence.

1:00 p.m. — Design, Care & Tips for Stunning Hydrangeas

Planting, pruning, watering, feeding, and how to get those huge, healthy blooms year after year. You’ll learn why some hydrangeas change color and how to control it, when to prune each type (this is the one everyone gets wrong), and how to design with hydrangeas so your landscape looks intentional instead of accidental. If you’ve ever pruned at the wrong time and lost a whole season of blooms, this talk is for you. No judgment. It happens to everyone once.

Between talks, our East End Trees team and the Bailey experts will be walking the yard giving personalized recommendations, pruning guidance, and design ideas for your specific property.

Here’s a pro tip: snap a few photos of your yard before you come. Show us the spot you’re trying to fill and we’ll match you with the right plant on the spot. Real answers for your real yard, not generic advice.

The Good Stuff

  • 10% off storewide, all day. Not just hydrangeas. Trees, shrubs, perennials, everything in the yard.
  • Food truck on site. Come hungry, make a day of it, and leave with lunch in your stomach and a trunk full of plants.
  • Free admission, free seminars, free advice. Just show up.
  • Something for every skill level. Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or you’ve never planted anything more ambitious than a tomato, you’ll leave knowing more than you came with.

Why Hydrangeas, and Why Now?

Late June is prime hydrangea season on Long Island. The plants are in full bloom, which means you can see exactly what you’re buying instead of trusting a photo on a tag. You’re picking the actual colors, the actual shape, the actual plant that’s going in your yard. Plant them now and they’ll establish strong roots through the summer with proper watering, setting you up for an even bigger show next year.

Come Early

We mean it. The best plants go first, and when the truckloads arrive, the early birds get first pick of the inventory. The 10:45 talk also tends to fill up, so plan to arrive when we open at 10:00 a.m. sharp, grab a coffee from the food truck, and browse before the first seminar kicks off.
